Rotary Special Needs Day is one of the most meaningful expressions of the Rotary Club of Joliet’s commitment to Service Above Self. In partnership with the Channahon‑Minooka and Morris Rotary Clubs, this annual event—held during the Channahon Three Rivers Festival—creates a joyful, inclusive experience for individuals with special needs and their families.

This free, thoughtfully designed day offers a welcoming, sensory-conscious environment where participants can relax, connect, and have fun together.

What the Day Offers

Rotary Special Needs Day features a wide range of engaging, accessible activities, including:

  • Exclusive carnival rides provided by Fantasy Amusements
  • Swimming opportunities with lift assistance available
  • Creative crafts and hands-on activity stations
  • Live animal encounters and interactive educational shows
  • Karaoke, games, and special guest appearances
  • Quiet, sensory-friendly spaces for those needing a low-stimulation environment
  • Complimentary lunch, supported by McDonald’s and Walmart

Scheduled highlights throughout the day include therapy dog visits, character appearances, and live entertainment designed to engage participants of all ages and abilities.

Rotary Special Needs Day is led by Joliet Rotarian Mike Ritoff, whose dedication and leadership help create the event’s warm, inclusive atmosphere. Joliet Rotarians play an active role throughout the day—welcoming families, assisting participants, facilitating activities, and ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone.

Joliet Rotarians are invited to be part of this special day by volunteering to assist with lunch service.

  • Volunteer Time: 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Role: Help serve lunch, support participants, and contribute to a smooth and welcoming experience
