For decades, the Rotary Club of Joliet and the Greater Joliet Area YMCA have worked together to improve the lives of children and families throughout the Joliet area. Built on shared values of service, leadership, and community engagement, this longstanding partnership has helped provide safe places to play, opportunities to learn, and programs that support the healthy development of young people.

One of the most enduring symbols of this relationship is the Rotary/YMCA Sportsfield, a community asset that has served generations of local youth. Rotary's support dates back to the creation of the Rotary Sports Complex at the Galowich YMCA, where the Club contributed more than $250,000 in cash and in-kind support. In addition, Rotary established a $75,000 endowment to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the YMCA Sportsfield for future generations.

Promoting Water Safety and Confidence

Rotary's partnership with the YMCA continues through support of youth water safety and swim education programs.

No photo description available. In collaboration with the Greater Joliet Area YMCA, the Rotary Club of Joliet helped provide free water safety and swim lessons for students from Fairmont School District 89 through 2025. These programs teach essential swimming skills, water safety awareness, and confidence in and around the water, helping prevent drowning and equipping children with life-saving skills.

Rotarians support these efforts not only through financial contributions but also through hands-on volunteerism. Club members have helped provide students with swim bags containing essentials such as swimsuits, towels, and goggles, ensuring every child has the resources needed to participate.

Investing in the Next Generation

The YMCA and Rotary share a common belief: every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. Through recreational programs, educational opportunities, and water safety initiatives, this partnership helps create positive experiences that foster confidence, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.

Whether on the playing field, in the pool, or through community-based youth programs, Rotary's investment in the YMCA reflects a larger commitment to supporting healthy, active, and engaged young people.
